STAAR Assembly

This morning we had a STAAR Assembly for our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to pump them up and get them excited about how hard they have worked to prepare for their tests in the next few weeks.

One of my teammates (Science chick Mrs. Klimek) and I performed a fun STAAR rap that we found online.  We changed the second portion of the words to make more sense with what we're doing (not sure what the 4 quarts are that they sing about).  We sang and danced.  So fun!

See the video for the words from Roula and Ryan here.  Hoping to get a video link to Mrs. Klimek and I dancing/singing as well.

Last night I wrote a poem for the students to chant after us.  It's in the style of "I don't know what you've been told."  The teachers and I sang each line; students echoed after us.  Here are the lyrics:

We have faith – you got it too?
Spent time teaching all of you
Science and arithmetic
Reading, writing - you’ll smash it

In the morning when you wake,
Healthy breakfast you should take
Dress for comfort and success
Bring your best and nothing less

When you walk into the room,
Take a breath and very soon
You will have a test booklet
Focus, think and then begin

Using all your strategies
Take a minute, don’t forget
Bubble in each answer clear
Erase stray marks and never fear

Be real smart and take your time
Never hurry, never fly
Read it once and read again
Check your answers at the end

Before you raise your hand real high
Don’t finish early just to make it fly by
Think through all that you just did
Check the scantron you bubbled in

Dark circles and answers marked
You can do this, you’re real smart
Cell phones off so no ring-ing
Rock the STAAR Test!  Do this thing!

Third Grade Goes to the Symphony!

Today all of our third grade students attended an amazing performance by the Lewisville Lake Symphony at the First Baptist Church of Lewisville.  Their behavior was stellar and they learned so much in music class about the families of instruments, composers, pieces played by the Symphony and topped it off with this amazing performance.

Such a great experience for them!
